CARING FOR YOUR PORCELAIN PAVERS

Creating elegant exterior spaces with porcelain pavers is extremely popular, especially in Houston, Texas, where outdoor living is comfortable 9 months out of the year. More and more people are looking into porcelain pavers, and others may already have these beautiful durable surfaces and design elements in their outdoor spaces. Either way, it is a common question to ask how to care for your porcelain pavers.

What exactly are porcelain pavers?

This is probably the best place to start. These thick pieces of material, or, pavers, are used as patios, balconies, and pool decking. Porcelain pavers commonly come 2 cm thick and are manufactured similarly to porcelain tile, with a porcelain core and an image baked onto the surface. The difference is the paver has a grip finish and can be installed without the need for a slab substrate, or other durable structure under the paver. It can be installed directly over compacted sand. Porcelain pavers are an extremely durable substance, and there’s a reason they are becoming such a common choice for most outdoor areas.

Can you get porcelain pavers in Houston, Texas?

Why, yes, Earth Stone and Colours are proud to offer the most extensive collection of both natural stone pavers and porcelain pavers in Houston, with most options in stock and others available by special order. We are proud to have a brand-new FALL 2022 collection of lighter color tones we are rolling out right now.

Are porcelain pavers hard to care for?

Porcelain pavers require little to no maintenance, aside from a routine cleaning when you deem necessary, with a broom and mop, and any ph-neutral cleaner. We offer cleaning products at Earth Stone and Colours, but any household cleaning materials should suffice, provided they are safe for the environment. Simply sweep or mop on cleaner according to product directions, and rinse off. It is cautious to ensure you do not rinse away the sand between the pavers which inhibits the growth of weeds. They are weather resistant and aside from a slight cleaning from time to time, stay beautiful year-round.

Difference in care between porcelain pavers to natural stone pavers?

Natural stone can be installed outdoors with a sealer or left unsealed and allowed to develop a natural patina. Things like mold or oils in pet urine can darken or change the color of these natural stone pavers. Porcelain pavers are virtually non-porous and require no sealer, plus soil from mold or pets can be cleaned off relatively easily. This, alongside the different size options makes porcelain continue to grow in popularity. They rarely have issues, and when they do corrections can be made instantly as opposed to a more effort-requiring natural stone.
