How to maintain your Quartzite Countertops

What is Quartzite?

Quartzite is a material that is the result of sandstone or other quartz-rich material that has been exposed to extreme levels of heat and undergone extreme pressure. It is a strong stone and can emulate marble. It has an extremely sought-after appearance and is becoming a popular choice for the homes of many. They are usually coated in some form of sealant, to ensure they do not soak up liquids.

Is quartzite difficult to maintain?

Quartzite countertops require little to no maintenance outside of your basic cleaning. Typically, to keep your countertops clean you will use a low-pH cleaner, something non-acidic. Even soap and water will get the job done from time to time. The cleaning process can differ from countertop to countertop, so make sure to ask before you purchase your specific quartzite. Resealing them to avoid any liquid damage is typical, usually, every one to two years is a good rule of thumb. This also depends on how often you are using liquids on or around your counters.

Why is quartzite so popular?

Quartzite is popular due to its varying color options. It is typical to see it in a beautiful white and grey marbling, but can also commonly be found in varying tones, dependent on the iron oxide your stone contains. The spectrum ranges from white and grey, all the way to pink, red, or even a blueish hue. This, combined with its extreme durability create a win-win situation for those looking to change the longterm look of their home. Sealing them is necessary, but it is a fairly simple process. Once sealed, there is practically no maintenance that needs to be done. Just be sure you are sealing them as needed!
